Review: Requiem for a Dream

Review: Requiem for a Dream

One of the best movies of all time, period. Also extremely dark, haunting, very very real and scary as a result of how real the acting, locations, direction & production make this film. It's not about DRUG addiction, but about anything that one can become addicted to--TV, caffeine, sex, not necessarily a drug--and how one's life spins out of control while one isn't paying attention! The justifications for continued use despite uncomfortable consequences, until one has compromised nearly every value & all self-respect for the drug of choice. The mother was as much addicted to TV & candy as to diet pills. Connelly portrays the sacrifices a woman makes for an addiction whether to a drug or a man, she falls so far it is impossible not to sympathize, each compromise so subtle yet heart breaking, for each of them. The struggles to regain control, and finally giving up. The production values on this are top notch, avant garde artistic shots and music, I highly recommend everyone see this movie.
