Review: The Resident

The Resident
The acting & production qualities were excellent, both Swank & an especially dual personality creepy Morgan were perfect in their roles & portrayals of characters in this BUT the script & motivations were weak (as was the helpless female without a brain ending), the character building needed more meat, & the suspense could have been edgier. Morgan is amazingly talented to pull off a "schizoid" buddy one moment & creep the next. I wish they hadn't repeated the beginning from his view & had instead just built it in from the start. Kind of a clunky way to show the split in who he was vs. pretended to be. Swank's character wasn't given development worthy of her playing the role. There are some reminders of Sliver yet this is very different. One can see the influences of Hitcockian & other past suspense greats however obvious and the ending was uninspired. I'd still have watched it, but it's best saved for a rainy day when there's nothing else to watch on the tube.
