Review of Bill Hicks: Sane Man

Bill Hicks: Sane Man

This was my 1st viewing of Hicks, I got past the production stuff easily not knowing what the usual would be for his stuff, the 1st part of the show was the funniest to me, the 2nd half much slower. It seemed he was really reaching for material towards the end, prolonging the punchlines way too long, such as the hairy butt porn stereotype, then the Reagan butt humping, as well as the Elvis impersonations, all went on way longer than necessary for the joke & made me feel as if I were indulging him, waiting for it to get better, because the reviews were so good. He's not as good as Stanhope, not as intelligent or keen; not once watching Stanhope did I look at the clock to see how much time was left, as I did during Hicks' show. I plan to watch the rest of Hicks material here because he is one of the greats, he's just not the comedy god he's made out to be here. Definitely in the top 10% just not the 1%, if he'd lived perhaps he would have reached that pinnacle. Still worth watching.
