The Flaming Lips: The Fearless Freaks
Rate 5 stars
Excellent documentary in quality audio, visual & content as well as organization & focus. The music was there, but the band members & family connections, history & characterizations, were the focus. I was not a fan before seeing this, thought their music too mellow, now perhaps I'll look up some of their older more experimental material, have a deeper understanding of the group & the music they made, as well as their intent behind it. I'm glad to know Steve got clean of heroin & hope he's still clean now. This film documents the history of just about every band member past or present. I didn't realize they were friends & collaborated with the White Stripes (one of my favs, Jack White in anything), that their influence came from the Butthole Surfers or that they considered themselves punk rockers. I knew their song videos tell incredible stories, wonder if the Mars Santa movie was ever completed? Highly recommend this to anyone interested in music or the band, fan or not, you'll learn something new & enjoy the journey.
